The Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization was formed in the year 1992 during the annual conference of the national association of property administrators. This conference was held in Newport. The corporate attendees present at the conference soon came to know concerns of the holders of the unclaimed properties through the association. The group comprised of approximately 40 members. The group formed the mission, goals and laws of the organization during the session. A certain amount of committees were formed during the session to fulfill the goals set by them. The first governing body of the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization was elevated in the year1993. The organization is recognized by the national association of unclaimed property administrators and other such entities. Currently, the organization has two hundred members and a strong board of directors. The organization is always ready to accept the challenges arising in the field of unclaimed property.

As the name implies, the organization is a platform for holding discussions, educative lectures, and advocacy. With the help of NAUPA, the UPPO seeks to ease the work related to the field of unclaimed property claims that ranges from reporting, elimination of confusion of issues relating to unclaimed property.
