NAUPA

NAUPA or the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators is a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Association of State Treasurers. Members that are present in the National Association of Unclaimed Property administrators constitute all the states and the District of Columbia. Every year, NAUPA conducts several meetings and seminars, in order to provide professional education chances for the policy makers of the state, executives, auditors, and bearers. The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators provides a staple meeting place for the process of continuous give and takes on interstate co-operation, education, and training, undifferentiated laws, the requirements for reporting process. It also, increases the awareness among the masses about the role that the states play in keeping their property intact. In addition to the conduction of seminars of the association and holding conferences, the national association of unclaimed property administrators also publishes a newsletter on a quarterly basis. It also has a reference handbook, which is accessible to its members as well as the public.

Goals of NAUPA:

The national association of unclaimed property administrators has a mission to spread and support professionalism among the people, who have the responsibility of complying with the standards of the unclaimed property administration. The association has set certain goals which it follows. The goals are:

 

  • The national association of unclaimed property administrators will work with diligence through its memberships, the executive committee and its staff to increase the awareness of the factors relating to unclaimed property. It will hold educational seminars for this purpose.
  • The national association of unclaimed property administrators will propagate compliance efforts and reunite the owners with their respective properties.
  • In these efforts, the national association of unclaimed property administrators will work in a diligent manner to help in promoting uniformity among the different states, as and when possible.

 

The Role of the States:

The national association of unclaimed property administrators prescribes that, every state makes a serious effort to help the people in locating their missing assets and giving it back to them. There has to be no type of cost, whatsoever, involved in the reuniting process with a few exceptions. The states are permitted to use the various publicity avenues such as the newspapers, enclosures, and mailing procedures to inform the owners about their property and also, suggest ways to reclaim it. There are other methods such as putting up booths at various sites that can be used by the states.
